Sxephil is the screename of a man named Phillip Defranco that gives daily posts that are pretty much really politically incorrect and sarcastic and funny current events. So of course he deals with a lot of seemingly taboo issues... like race.
The link on the bottom is a youtube video he made talking about various things, such as an astroid almost hitting earth, an ex porn star senator, and Miley Cyrus. He talks about a picture where Miley posed with a ton of white people and one asian boy, squinting their eyes to make fun of him, while the asian is wide-eyed in apparent shock.
I don't really know what to think about this... The setting makes it seem like the asian is their friend. It's like a small party in someone's house. That, and why does the asian look shocked if he was looking in the camera? how could he have seen them making fun of him until after the picture was taken.
My bet is this was a posed joke that the asian boy participated in. If that's the case I don't see the harm in it. The boy couldn't have been offended if he agreed to it. Unless this was a situation where since it was a pleasant atmosphere he felt the pressure of people turning on him and being mean to him if he didn't. I guess only the boy will know if it was a bash on his race or not.
Oh and a side note. When Phil talks about the name Lequisha, and bashing it, saying he's never heard people with the name Lequisha pronounce anything properly, is that racist? It's an African name, but I don't know if that has any relevance to the joke. He could just be bashing the name. For example, Bob doesn't seem like a serious name to me.

Journal #4 "Gran Torino"
Clint Eastwood is awesome...
My older brother took me to the movies to see "Gran Torino", which fit very well in the topic of struggle for equality. This hit a lot in the feild of Asian people, but mostly gang affiliation with the Vietnamese. The leading lady is a young vietnamese girl who talks about her family moving to America because they wanted to be free of Communism, and faces a new fear that Americans impose because of prejudice.
The young girl gets rape threats left and right, and eventually gets gang raped by her own cousin's gang, because she is friends with the man next door- A war veteran who fought in Vietnam. Their people are depicted as either being spat at or adored by Americans.
The major arguement that the gang makes for themselves is that they are protecting their own people. They feel looked down upon by Americans, and even Asians of different countries, and feel a preamtive strike is the only way to protect themselves. The projection theory doesn't exactly help their cause in this instance.
I never really saw asian people being looked down upon, so I never saw these problems before. This movie really enlightened me. As I said before in my Haole Journal, I guess racism really does occur in ALL races.
